The word "Maibuchen" is very much limited to Stillings work. It comes up in many of his texts. it is used a forestry book, but Stillinig looks to be the one who created it and used it most often. The word has never been correctly translated in any English language translation.

Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling. 1740  1847. Heinrich Stillings Jugend, 1777. The full text is available at zeno.org. Scanned pages from an 1806 published book is below. The story begins on pg 129 and ends on pg 134.

The Grimm story leaves out the part the the high sorceress can turn into a rabbit also. They just mention that she can turn into a cat or an owl.
